How massive would a planet have to be to make rocket technology ineffective?

I've been thinking about the Drake equation and Fermi's Paradox and was wondering if we are missing an important element in the question of where the aliens are. As such, I'm curious at what mass a planet would have to be to make it impossible, using current rocket technology available on earth, to get into orbit.

Googling around I found this: https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/expeditions/expedition30/tryanny.html " If our planet was 50% larger in diameter, we would not be able to venture into space, at least using rockets for transport." Which isn't quite the answer I was looking for but is related.
